Week Four NFL Picks

It's time for another exciting weekend of pigskin action. With no further ado, here are my week four prognostications (home teams in all caps):

TEXANS over Raiders. The Fighting Tom Cables will put up a fight, but JaMarcus Russell will be sacked one too many times by Mario Williams.

Titans over JAGUARS. Tennessee may be winless, but they showed great promise in last week's hard-fought loss at the Jets. Don't count out Jeff Fisher's squad just yet.

Ravens over PATRIOTS. What a spectacular game this will be, a fascinating battle between the electric New England offense and the stifling Ravens defense. Look for Joe Flacco to orchestrate a game-winning drive in the final minutes.

Bengals over BROWNS. It's week four, and Coach Eric Mangini has already pulled the plug on Brady Quinn. Derek Anderson may be a slight improvement, but the Browns may well be the worst team in football. Blowout alert!

Giants over CHIEFS. The loud noise of Arrowhead Stadium will be largely muted by the dominance of the best team in the NFC.

BEARS over Lions. Congratulations to first-year head coach Jim Schwartz for bringing a long-awaited win to Detroit. Unfortunately for Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, and company, it could be weeks before they celebrate another victory.

REDSKINS over Bucs. Two terrible teams duke it out in a game that will be sloppy and uninspired. If Jim Zorn's Redskins follow up last week's loss to the Lions with a home loss to the Bucs, Daniel Snyder will be out for blood.

COLTS over Seahawks. Many people predicted a downturn this season for the Colts, who lost wide receiver Marvin Harrison and Coach Tony Dungy during the offseason. But judging by their total thrashing of the Cardinals last week, Indy is as scary as they have ever been.

SAINTS over Jets. Game of the week. This battle of the undefeateds features two insanely productive offenses. In the end, Drew Brees will prve once again that his name belongs to be mentioned in the same breath as Manning, Roethlisberger, and Brady.

DOLPHINS over Bills. An already discouraging season got even worse for the Fish when they lost quarterback Chad Pennington to a season-ending injury. But they will still be able to knock off a Bills team that is distracted by the latest whining of Terrell Owens.

49ERS over Rams. Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Niners!!!!!!! Enough said.

Cowboys over BRONCOS. The Cowboys are an incessantly overhyped, thoroughly mediocre team playing on the road against the undefeated Broncos. But after unconvincing wins against the Bengals, Browns, and Raiders, I get the sense that Denver is an even bigger pretender than Dallas.

STEELERS over Chargers. This is a must win for the defending Super Bowl champs. The Steelers cannot afford to drop to 1-3, and they won't. Ben Roethlisberger will have his best game in weeks, and Pittsburgh will prevail.

Packers over VIKINGS. Oh here we go. Green Bay gets its' first shot at revenge against old friend Brett Favre. Wouldn't we all be happy if Aaron Rodgers wanders over to the Vikings sideline at halftime and knees Favre in the groin?

Okay here we go. After a 12-4 record in week one, I aim to improve my football prognostication skills in week 2. So, according to my ability to foresee the future, the following teams will be celebrating a victory. And remember, GO Niners!!!!!!!!!!!:

Week One NFL Winners

The defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers commenced the 2009 NFL season in thrilling fashion on Thursday night, defeating Kerry Collins, Chris Johnson, and the Tennessee Titans in overtime, 13-10. Meanwhile, the Steelers lost Troy Polomalu to injury, an intriguing early season development that may or may not hinder the Steelers quest to repeat. We shall see. Thursday night was the kickoff, but Sunday is the big premiere for the NFL. There are some terrific games (Bears-Packers; Niners-Cardinals; Eagles-Panthers), and here are my prognostications (home team in all caps):

FALCONS over Dolphins..........Matt Ryan proves that he was no rookie fluke.
RAVENS over Chiefs..........Joe Flacco proves that he was no rookie fluke.
PANTHERS over Eagles..........Jake Delhomme is mad as hell following last year's playoff loss.
BENGALS over Broncos..........Chad Ochocinco backs up his words.
Vikings over BROWNS..........I can't stand Favre, but I'm not stupid. Nonetheless, I'm rooting for the Browns.
TEXANS over Jets..........Mark Sanchez has an impressive debut, but he'll have to wait for his first W.
COLTS over Jaguars..........No Fred Taylor? BIG problem for the Jags.
SAINTS over Lions..........The Matthew Stafford era should be exciting, but the road to recovery in Detroit will be a long one.
Cowboys over BUCS..........The Cowboys will finish in third place this season in the NFC East. But they are still far better than Tampa.
Niners over CARDINALS..........Why? Because of Shaun Hill, Frank Gore, Glen Coffee, Patrick Willis, and Nate Clements. No Crabtree, no problem. Can you sense that I'm biased?
GIANTS over Redskins..........The Albert Haynesworth acquisition is huge for the Redskins, but lets not kid ourselves. Giants roll.
SEAHAWKS over Rams..........If Matt Hasselbeck stays healthy, Seattle will rebound in 2009.
Bears over PACKERS..........Jay Cutler shows that this isn't your old Chicago Bears offense. Big statement win in a brutally tough road environment.
PATRIOTS over Bills..........T.O.'s Buffalo debut becomes completely overshadowed by the return of Brady.
Chargers over RAIDERS..........They're the Raiders. No explanation needed.

PANTHERS over Falcons

• Houston has no answer for the one-two punch of Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor.

Broncos over CHIEFS

• I never thought I'd live to see the day when the Royals were no longer the worst team in Kansas City.

49ers over SAINTS

• I feel like a kid on Christmas morning, I'm so excited. J.T. O'Sullivan has been a magnificent surprise, we have playmakers on defense, and Mike Martz has reinvigorated our offense. Gooooooooooo Niners!!!!!!!!!!

JETS over Cardinals

• Okay, you got me. I'm picking the Jets primarily because I want Arizona to lose.

Packers over BUCS

• Aaron Rodgers leads the Packers to victory in the Battle of the Bays.

TITANS over Vikings

• A thrilling affair that will be decided by a clutch Rob Bironas kick.

Chargers over RAIDERS

• The Raiders have a chance at staying competitive in this game, but they have no shot of winning amidst the distracting Lane Kiffin saga against a much stronger team.

Bills over RAMS

• Sad but true: Scott Linehan better have his bags ready on Monady morning.

COWBOYS over Redskins

• Closer than the experts think, due to the magnitude and energy of this rivalry. But Dallas will surely find a way to win.

Eagles over BEARS

• Tough road game for the Westbrook-less Eagles. McNabb, however, rises to the occasion in his hometown. Philly gets a big win.

STEELERS over Ravens

• An entertaining Monday nighter. These two teams always put on a good show when they play, and this contest will be no different. I'll take Big Ben and Pittsburgh in a squeaker.

Week Three Picks

Can the Jaguars finally find a way to beat the Colts? Will Joey Porter's words come back to haunt him yet again? Who will win Pennsylvania bragging rights? All of these questions will be answered this weekend. Here's how I see it all going down (home team in caps):

FALCONS over Chiefs. This one's a stinker. Atlanta, however, is less of a disaster.
BILLS over Raiders. The Bills go to 3-0, and rumors surrounding Lane Kiffin grow louder.
BEARS over Bucs. Da Bears get the win. The Griese-Garcia QB controversy rolls on.
Panthers over VIKINGS. The return of Steve Smith helps Carolina keep the Vikes winless.
PATRIOTS over Dolphins. Joey Porter, just stop talking. Cassel gets win #2 of his career.
GIANTS over Bengals. Blowout of the week. The Bengals might as well stay home.
TITANS over Texans. Kerry Collins moves one step closer to being the permanent starter.
REDSKINS over Cardinals. A trap game for Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, and Arizona.
SEAHAWKS over Rams. Tick tock, tick tock. Scott Linehan's time is running out.
Saints over BRONCOS. Call me crazy, but I smell an upset in the Mile High City.
EAGLES over Steelers. Thriller of the week. Philly wins this Pennsylvania showdown.
COLTS over Jaguars. Too early to panic, but Jacksonville is in big trouble.
Browns over RAVENS. A must win for Cleveland. A loss would crush their playoff hopes.
Cowboys over PACKERS. A back-and-forth affair that goes into overtime. Dallas prevails
CHARGERS over Jets. This one could get ugly. Don't you wish you were retired, Brett?
NINERS over Lions. Gooooooooooooooooo Niners!!!!!!!!!!

Week Two Picks

Week one was a week of unpredictability, a week that resulted in the end of Tom Brady's season and a police search for Vince Young. There were a lot of upsets, such as the Panthers shocking the Chargers in San Diego and the Bears crushing the Colts in Indy. What's in store for week two? It is anybody's guess, but here are my predictions, as I look to bounce back from only seven correct picks last week (home teams are capitalized):



Packers over LIONS. Aaron Rodgers continues to make Packers fans forget about Favre.

CHIEFS over Raiders. Kansas City is bad, but the Raiders are jaw-droppingly awful.

Giants over RAMS. Marc Bulger, meet the Giants D. You'll be seeing a lot of them.

Colts over VIKINGS. Huge game for both teams. I like the Colts in a thriller.

BENGALS over Titans. The media storm over Vince Young has Tennessee disoriented.

Saints over REDSKINS. The Redskins are favored? Huh?? The Saints win big.

PANTHERS over Bears. Interesting game, with Carolina proving that they are for real.

JAGUARS over Bills. The pesky and talented Bills keep it close, but not close enough.

49ers over SEAHAWKS. Let's go Niners!!! Let's go Niners!!! Let's go Niners!!! Go SF!!!

BUCS over Falcons. This game will be tighter than expected, but Tampa gets the W.

JETS over Patriots. The Jets cannot afford to squander this opportunity.

CARDINALS over Dolphins. Let's look on the bright side. Miami won't go 0-16 again.

BRONCOS over Chargers. A fantastic AFC West showdown. The Bolts drop to 0-2.

Steelers over BROWNS. Big Ben and the Steelers deal a big blow to the Browns.

Ravens over TEXANS. Joe Flacco could be in for a strong rookie season.

Eagles over COWBOYS. Oh, baby, what a game. McNabb says, "Terrell who?"
